UNICEF – MERI

Youth Delegation, UNICEF, and MERI Foundation Join Forces for Children and Youth in LAC

MERI and UNICEF have signed a partnership that seeks to take joint climate and environmental action in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), mainly by advancing environmental education and making children and young people in the region players in the solutions to protect the planet. This partnership will contribute to the achievement and acceleration of the 2030 Agenda and especially Sustainable Development Goals 4, 6, 7, 13, 14, 15, and 17.

Considering that young people are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and are also agents of change, they have been invited to participate in the 2nd Conference on Scientific Evidence and Public Policy: Climate Change in Latin America and the Caribbean and will be given training and dialogue opportunities to guarantee their full participation.

The conference will be attended by international experts, representatives of civil society, indigenous peoples, decision-makers, and the Youth Delegation, which consists of 24 adolescents between the ages of 15 and 25 from 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The region’s youth are being agents of change and are desperately asking governments to act urgently and ambitiously.

MERI, UNICEF, and the youth of Latin America and the Caribbean are joining forces to empower this new generation, whose actions are undoubtedly one of the keys to addressing the climate and environmental crisis.
