Tonight, in Edinburgh, the 3rd “Because the Ocean” Declaration was made, an initiative led by the Foundation Prince Albert II de Monaco and the Chilean Government, which brings together several countries committed to the care of the oceans.
In this regard, the Chilean Minister of the Environment, Carolina Schmidt, pointed out that “there is no way to make progress in caring for the environment without putting science at the heart of decisions.” For his part, HRH Prince Albert of Monaco highlighted the initiative and the importance of getting countries on board to advance decisively in blue carbon solutions.
The Executive President of MERI Foundation, Francisca Cortés Solari, pointed out that the situation is urgent, stating that: “We ran out of time. It is time to change the paradigm and work together, public sector, private sector, and civil society, in the service of mitigation. We must look to our oceans and preserve their ecosystem services, which are essential to our survival.”
